Exciting times at Simple towers this month, we have part completed our server move to our new datacentre. Also the Simple cloud is currently being installed as I write this.

This gives us new levels of control, power and speed over our old infrastructure and consolidates our 3 datacentre’s into one faster location.

When the migration is finished we will be able to offer true best of breed shared, dedicated and VPS hosting.

Look

Magento Go is now SAAS

With developers and hosting providers following, Varien are positioned correctly to shake the e-commerce market up. Now they have released Magento Go.

How hosting partners might be involved in this is somewhat less clear.

Varien are monopolising the Magento development and hosting workspace, but potentially dictating full control.

Magento Speed and SEO

It remains to be seen if Magento Go platform on Rackspace will offer the same levels of speed and also what the seo implications are…

Magento Hosting

Our test initially show Magento Go does not run very quickly, but will will post more findings soon.

TRUE High Availability and speed

The CloudSafe platform has been designed from the outset to deliver outstanding reliability. The platform has been engineered to ensure there is no single point of failure. This claim not only covers the connectivity, power and servers but the data as well. Each piece of data is written to two physically separate RAIDed disk arrays to ensure no physical failure can bring down the platform.

We ensure that the risks due to power, connectivity or networking are minimised by building our systems using equipment from leading technology suppliers such as Cisco, EMC, Dell and HP and ensuring full redundancy across the cloud layers.

Many cloud hosting suppliers deliver their solution running on low end commodity hardware in the belief that the low price will compensate for a second rate performance and service.

We take a different view. We believe that cloud hosting services need to deliver reliability and guaranteed performance. To achieve this all virtual severs within our cloud are running on high specification tier 1 hardware with the latest processors. Ensuring that the processing power and the memory is available addresses part of the problem but a major bottle neck with most cloud offerings is the disk performance. In many cases you are limited by the local drives attached to the physical server and further impacted by the unpredictable I/O characteristics of the virtual machines that are sharing that physical server.

We have addressed this issue by investing in a high performance Virtual SAN. All physical machines are attached by Fibre Channel to the SAN which uses advanced striping and caching techniques to ensure all attached Virtual Machines receive the maximum performance with no impact from other machines in the cluster.
